Put Yourself On The Hook

Book "The Practice" sitting beside loaves of bread

Author Seth Godin speaks of a tradition in Turkey called Askida Ekmek. It means “there is bread on the hook”.

Here’s how he explains it:

“When buying a loaf at the local bakery, you can choose to pay for an extra loaf and, after bagging your purchase, the owner will hang the second loaf on a hook on the wall.
If a person in need comes by, he or she can ask if there’s anything on the hook. If so, the bread is shared, and the hunger is relieved. Perhaps as important, community is built.
When you choose to produce creative work, you’re solving a problem. Not just for you, but for those who will encounter what you’ve made.
By putting yourself on the hook, you’re performing a generous act. You are sharing insight and love and magic. And the more it spreads, the more it’s worth to all of those who are lucky enough to experience your contribution.”

Reflecting on this I realized that my main way to put myself “on the hook” comes through The Armoury. The brand I’ve created that is a direct reflection of me and my life experience, which has lead to what I’ve come to believe about fitness, strength training, and life in general.

The Armoury is my answer to the common problem of being physically weak. It’s my hope that when people with this problem encounter what I have made, they are able to overcome it and thrive, making it so their life is never the same. Weakness is replaced by strength.

How are you putting yourself on the hook?

It doesn’t have to be a brand or business or job. You don’t have to plaster your thoughts all over social media.

It’s simply a way you’re contributing. Sharing your insight and love and magic that is uniquely and authentically you.

I believe we’re all meant to do this.

When we do, it makes a positive impact on our community and environment. This always comes full circle to improve our own lives as well.

Are you on the hook?
