Is Time Your Friend or Enemy?

I recently read a quote that struck me:

“Your task as a student of human nature & someone aspiring to reach the greater potential of the human being is to widen your relationship to time as much as possible. This means you do not see the passage of time as an enemy but rather as a great ally. Each stage of life has it’s advantages…with age comes greater perspective. Aging does not frighten you. Death is equally your friend. It motivates you to make the most of each moment; it gives you a sense of urgency. Time is your great teacher and master. Knowing this affects you deeply in the present.”

Make Time Your Friend

This one has garnered the most questions by far from the members as to it’s meaning.

I agree with the above quote but my view is that the passage of time can be your great friend or enemy based on how you spend it in the present.

If you spend your time:

  • Complaining & blaming
  • Making excuses
  • Thinking you know it all, never striving to learn
  • Living very comfortably, never getting out of your comfort zone
  • Sitting most of the time and doing nothing physically hard
  • Paying no attention to your sleep & nutrition
  • Abusing substances

Then time will not be so friendly to you. As it passes you will find life getting harder.

If you spend your time:

  • Being generally optimistic and positive
  • Encouraging others
  • Striving to learn and grow, realizing you can always be better
  • Living at the edge of your comfort zone
  • Strength training and moving often
  • Developing a healthy relationship with food & eating enough protein
  • Sleeping 8 hours/night
  • Drinking 2-3L/water each day

Then time becomes far more friendly to you. The passage of it is now your ally. As time goes by you will find life getting better as you continue to grow physically, mentally, & spiritually. Your life will be a grand adventure.
